In February 2024, Oxfordian College introduced the “Employability Framework” as part of our college aim to better the lives of our students. This framework’s goal is to upskill students in order to improve their employability and further their careers. Our aim is to see our students in employment, grow in their profession or study further to live their dreams. Through this framework we are keen to make sure our students develop the skills employers need.
As per the OfS guidelines on employability, “… the additional skills and competencies that an individual gains as they progress through higher education, which improve and enhance their employment and career. The Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) adds that employability consists of knowledge, skills and social capital.”
Students receive specialised employability support in order to meet these expectations.
Graduates receive career guidance to help them advance into the workforce or further study.
Work placement or employability skills should be ingrained in the courses offered.
Advice to students should be reflected in their academic activities during studies.
Excellent staff with academic expertise and up to date business experience.
Required skills and attributes that employers look for.
External examiners/assessors are drawn from business, industry or the professions
Endeavour to maintain contact with students who have found employment after completing their studies and to obtain feedback from them and their employers
Organising career guidance, opportunity and employability workshops
Career and skill development certifications
Work based learnings
Group presentations based on real life corporate scenarios with local employers invited to sit in for feedback during presentations
Links with other institutions regarding employability theme
Academic industrial tours
Work Shadowing: short term, informal activities where a student will spend time on company premises but will have no contract or expectation of making a working contribution as it is an observational activity
Students’ participation to employment related workshops and seminars
Recognition for exhibiting the skills
Regular workshops for CV writing, interview skills, personal profile development, Digital Skills, Career Decision, Self- Awareness, Presentation on Interviews and Interpersonal Skills
You can also apply for internships speculatively, i.e., contact employers of your interest and enquire about an opportunity. Your Oxfordian Employability team will be able to help you.
Once you find a consultancy project/internship/industrial placement opportunity relevant to your career interests, become familiar with it (which may mean you need to get in touch with the company) and then Oxfordian Employability team can help you to write a first-class cover letter before submitting your application for a job.
